Frequently asked questions

Get answers to common questions about kitchen refacing & refinishing

What is the difference between refinishing and refacing cabinets?

Refinishing takes your existing cabinet boxes, doors and drawers and we prep and spray them with eco-friendly water borne-lacquer. Refacing is keeping your existing cabinet boxes and getting all new doors and drawer fronts. The existing cabinets and new doors are all sprayed to match to a new colour.

Should I reface/refinish, or get new cabinets?

This is dependant on a few factors such as budget, timeline and the condition and quality of the existing cabinets. Call us and we will assess your current kitchen. If you are happy with the layout and just need a refresh, then refinishing may be all you need.

How long does a kitchen refinishing job take?

Typically it takes 7-10 days from start to finish. We are in your home twice, one full day on site with prep and spraying boxes; then we return 7-10 days later and install the cured doors and drawers in just a few hours or so.

How long does it take to reface a kitchen?

3-4 weeks or less. Once the door style has been chosen and ordered it takes 10-14 days for the doors to be made. The boxes are then sprayed on site and the new doors and drawers will be sprayed at our shop; once cured for a few days, they are installed and the job is completed.

How many colours/styles can I choose from?

The colours and styles are limitless. We use the Benjamin Moore colour palette, but it is not a Benjamin Moore latex paint. We use only high quality water-borne lacquers. A colour match can be done to match other suppliers colours like Sherwin William or Behr. We work with several doors suppliers so we have access to many different options.

How much will it cost me?

We can’t provide you with an accurate price without first seeing your kitchen, we can help you plan your kitchen renovation from a refresh or a full refacing job. Your timeline and budget will also be a factor. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your kitchen refinishing costs.

1. Refinishing is less expensive than refacing.
2. Your doors and drawers need to be in decent condition to refinish-if its not going to look beautiful in the end, then what’s the point!
3. Refacing costs are dependant on the style, materials and colours you choose.
4. Call one of our experts for advice before you start!

Are your products environmentally friendly?

Yes they are, we use water borne lacquers with low VOC’s. No solvents or oils are ever used.

What are VOC's?

This an acronym that stands for Volatile Organic Compounds, which is a carbon based compound that evaporates readily and becomes airborne. VOC’s exist in all living things and some are toxic. We take care to ensure the VOC’s range from none to low with the products that we use in your home and our shop.

What order do you recommend for a kitchen renovation?

We strongly recommend that your floors, counters and backsplash are completed prior to spraying, then cabinet refinishing or refacing, and finally your walls can be painted last to finish off the perfect look.
